The idea behind the UpstateLIVE Music Guide was created almost ten years ago, in the form of another paper called Revolving Door.

When the Revolving Door Music Guide began publishing in May 1998, it spoke of joining the Upstate New York Music Scenes into one network in the very first issues. As time passed, the jam and roots community took in Revolving Door as its own, and it quickly became a staple on the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic jam festival circuit.

In 2004, after seven years and 63 issues, Revolving Door's publisher Goldstar Entertainment decided that the time was right to end this groundbreaking media publication. In the 10 years since Revolving Door's first issue, many national, regional and local jam-styled music guides have been created or reformatted, and there is no doubt that Revolving Door has been the major influence in almost every one of them.
